Pre-Launch Event

The mace of the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament UK was pre-launched on Friday, 6th March 2026, at Edward Betham Church of England Primary School in Greenford, ahead of its formal unveiling on Friday, 13th March 2026, at St. Bonaventure’s School, Forest Gate.

A former pupil of the school, the late Sir David Amess, the project’s founder, formed “The Revolutionary Party” at just eleven years old there to ‘abolish homework’.

The ceremonial mace, created by acclaimed artist Tolleck Winner, embodies democracy, unity, and the voices of young people across the UK. It has now embarked on a nationwide tour of more than 100 primary schools, as pupils elect their MPs to the Children’s Parliament UK.

Honouring Sir David Amess MP, this initiative inspires oracy skills, civic engagement and leadership among Britain’s next generation.

The tour continues until October 2026, culminating in a national gathering of Children’s Parliament representatives in Westminster.

Launch Event

St Bonaventure’s Catholic School in Forest Gate will mark its 150th anniversary in 2027 by honouring former pupil Sir David Amess MP with the launch of the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament UK National Mace Tour on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Founded by Sir David in 2021 to give children aged 7-11 a voice in democracy, the Children’s Parliament continues his vision of civic education and compassionate leadership.

The nationwide Mace Tour begins where his journey started – at St Bonaventure’s – and will travel to schools across the UK before culminating in Westminster later this year.

The handcrafted Mace, created by Tolleck Winner and donated by “Action Amanda” Frolich, represents the voice of young people in democracy.

At the Forest Gate launch, seven newly elected Child MPs from local primaries will be sworn in by former Southend West and Leigh MP and project Patron Anna Firth, Uma Kumaran MP, and Baroness Uddin.

“Sir David believed children should learn not just how democracy works, but why it matters. This event celebrates his enduring faith, optimism, and service.”

Christopher McCormack, St Bonaventure’s Catholic School Headteacher
